Society and Politics

Extraordinary rendition is the CIA activity of "transferring" or "flying captured terrorist suspects from one country to another for detention and interrogation" without the benefit of "formal legal proceedings." Below is a link to a clip from a TV show that explorers the morality behind these types of actions. By behaving without honor, we have given our enemies permission to behave in the same manner.

The International Committee of the Red Cross is mandated, under the Geneva Conventions, to visit prisoners of war and civilian internees to verify whether they are being treated according to relevant international standards. We argued for and signed the Geneva Conventions.

Yet, today we have also decided that we have the right to pick and chose when we will stand by our signature. Doesn't that give others the right to do the same thing?

This issue is a bi-partisan issue. In carrying out gross violations of international law, the White House faced little or no opposition from the Democratic and Republican leadership in Congress and the so-called liberal media. Despite the exposure of sadistic abuse of prisoners at Abu Ghraib and Guantánamo, illegal surveillance of US citizens, torture, forced renditions, secret CIA prisons—all directed from the highest levels of government—not a single high-level official has been prosecuted. Instead, Congress effectively gave its blessing to these crimes with its passage of the Military Commissions Act in 2006.

We like to think of our nation as that bright and shining example to the other nations of the world. Unfortunately, we have been shown to have feet of clay. Where are the public crys of protest over these abominations? We must not remain silent.

Hebrews 13:3 (NIV) Remember those in prison as if you were their fellow prisoners, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering.
