Society and Politics: Where are the Republican Options?

I received a call from a close friend the other day. After "catching up", he shifted to the reason behind his call. He and his wife were bothered by the debate on health care. Knowing that I was involved with the Republican Party, he called to express his concerns.
His concerns were simple. In all of the reports on the Health Care debate, he did not see a true debate. He heard over and over that the Republicans were against the bill, but silence when it came to Republican commentary as to what alternatives they were proposing.
Discussing this concern with his wife and coworkers, they summarized their position with two questions;
- If Republicans believe there isn't a problem with Health Care, then they need to show why they are taking that position.
- If the Republicans acknowledge that there is a problem with Health Care, then they need to present counter proposals on how to help deal with those problems.
Since I agree with his assessment, it is my intention to ask these questions on as many forums and mail lists as possible, until I can get a clear answer to present to him.
